love story

It was around April of 2011 that my best friend, Megan, and her fiance at the time, Kenny wanted to set me up with Kenny's friend, Michael. I had already had my mission call by then and was sort of waiting for a missionary. So I was a little hesitant about being set up but there was a dance at the University of Utah school and so they set us up for that. Michael had called me and personally asked me to the dance himself. Well because it was still snowing around that time it was snowing bad enough that I could not make the 5 hour trip up to the dance. So because that fell through, Michael had it in his head to not pursue me because I was leaving for a mission.

About a month later, Megan & Kenny get married in St. George. I was the maid-of-honor and Michael was on of the best men. So of course we spent the whole day around each other. We didn't say a word to each other the whole day. It was kind of awkward but I didn't let it bother me too bad. While at the reception Michael had gotten another girls number and that did make me a little sad. Well a week later Megan & Kenny had their open houses in Farmington, UT. As good friends that we are Michael and I both attended that open house. Well I was there first and I rolled my eyes in annoyance when I saw Michael walk in. Surprisingly he came straight over to me and sat down in the chair next to me. We started talking about random things and our conversation felt very natural. At the end of the open house Michael asked if I wanted to hangout with him and I answered with a quick and excited, "Yes!". I felt really dumb for answering like that, but I did. So we spent the night together with me wearing his clothes (my change of clothes was locked in a car along with the keys to the car), playing guitars, seeing his best friend that just came home from his mission, a trip to In-&-out Burger for Shakes and onion rings, and driving around talking some more. This time more about each-other. He took me back to the hotel I was staying at and I was sad to have the night be over.

Well ever since that night we talked everyday pretty much all day. Texting during the day, calling, facebook chats, and skyping each-other at night. We had a long distance relationship and it sucked really bad! We made it a priority that we would take turns visiting each other every other weekend. And so it was this for a couple months until the time arrived to decide if I would stay home from my mission to pursue this relationship or if I needed to serve the Lord. At this point we had told each other that we loved each other and oh what a joyous moment that was. So back to the previous conversation. I finally brought it up and asked Michael what he was thinking about it. I knew I wanted to serve a mission but I was afraid to leave Michael in fear of losing him to another girl. Michael then said one of the happiest things he's said to me. He said, "I don't want to deny you the blessings of serving a mission. Lindsay, I love you, and I want to marry you, so I will faithfully wait for you." Oh what happy feelings that gave me! So it was then decided that I would go and he would be there for me when I got back. We even discussed possible months to get married for when I returned.

So I served my mission faithfully and enjoyed that experience I had. Michael faithfully waited for me, not dating a single girl, and writing me a letter of support and love every week that I was gone. He stayed true to his heart and what he had told me. He is so sweet and wonderful to me! I returned from my mission December 19th 2012. I have to say that I was slightly hesitant that things would be the same between Michael and I but the moment we saw each other for the first time, it was as if we had never parted. Everything was the same except our love had grown stronger. A few weeks after I got home, Michael and I went ring shopping. A couple weeks after that we were engaged on January 25th. We talked over a few dates and finally came up with April 27th, 2013. Oh that April day was so joyous! Knowing that I was sealed to my best friend and the cutest man alive just made me so happy! There's been a few stressful moments since then but over-all it has been the best and happiest 4 1/2 months of my life!
